This is My first edit of my music video.

Changing ideas

I really wanted to have the background without black sides. However, because of the way I filmed it i was unable to do this as I had limited space due to the lighting set up.  The only way, with the time I had, was to stretch it like above using photoshop. However, after many attempts it became clear that it was impossible to match the colours exactly. This was the closest I could get and yet you can still clearly see the difference between the stretched out background and the original footage. I am disappointed because it hasn't turned out exactly how I imagined it in my head.

Four

This is an idea I got from a little mix video, but they played around lots with colour and each picture was a differnt person, obviously I didn't have the chance to do that. However, I was really happy with how it turned out. I think it could make my video more intresting. I doubt I will repeat it lots as I will the Three images because I feel it would cut too sharply.

Three

This is an idea I was really apprensive of trying as I didn't think it would look that effective. However, after trying it I was really pleased withhow it turned out and it is something I think I will do alot in my music video. I might play around more with the opacity and the differnt images I can use.

Test Footage

In this video I switched all the lights off and just used a torch. It created a rather spooky effect that I could only imagine using at the beginning of my video. However I'm not sure it would fit with my music as the song I am using is rather girly, but it could work well with my theme of mysteriousness and it is as though the light finds the subject in the dark.

This video is simple. I used the lights without a screen as I have done previously just to see what it looked like and certain shapes I could make with the body. I think I could deffinatly use this and maybe cut back and forth to images with and without the screen.

 

During this video I used gells to give the whole image a colour and I thought it looked really good. However if i use this in my actual footage I will have to make sure that the gells are completly clear as if they have a scratch on them it ruins the effect as you can see in the video above. I especially liked the blue and red as they give a much darker colour.

In this video I used some shapes I had previously made to see what effect they would make. I used cardboard but it didn't work as well as paper did, however im not sure if I really liked it and it didn't really give the effect I imagined.

This is the setting I probably will use as its really simply and this a side view. I will probably set up two cameras so I can cut between different views with the same image when filimg my video so I can make sure I do not miss any good shots.

This is a zoom on the lights as I thought this sets a really good image and could also be a good way to start the video as it blurs and then focus'.

This is again another video where I have focused on the movement of the subject and the differnt shapes that can be made. This shows more natural movement although it did make me think how well thought out the movements will have to be to make sure the silhoutte effect is  not lost.

In this video I filmed as I normally would have but I got a torch and shone it on a subject, in this case I used a dictionary. By shining the light on it you can see the subject but the silhoutte remains so it adds colour into the frame. This is something I will consider when doing my video.

First Test Footage

This is my first lot of test footage, all I did was pratise filiming using the silhouette. I also played around with different shapes and dances that could be done, obviously this is something I have to think of really carefully as the audience are only going to be able to see the silhouettes also, because the song I am using has a rather vinatge feel I wanted to keep the dance moves in theme with this. I also learnt that what the person I am filming is really important as during this footage the person wore a floaty top which once filmed didnt look as though it was a top but more as if the person being filmed was a weird shape because of this I think in further test footage and in my actual video I will ask her to wear a swimming costume so I could then really play around with different shapes that can be created using silhouttes. I plan to do more test footage, using a smoke machine and different shapes and to try out the actual setting I want to use, but this was very helpful as it alowed me to understand how to create the look I wanted using the screen and the lighting.

My Inspiration

This is a really good example of people using silhouettes. It is very original and creative, hence why I really liked it. Also, they use people whereas most videos I have researched have used puppets or cardboard cutouts, which makes it really relevant to my own ideas for my music video. It is also done to music which is also a strong link to music video. When the throw objects and use other props such as balloons, it really opened my eyes to the different props I could use, I think the balloon idea is amazing and it defiantly something I would consider using in my own video.

This is the video that really planted the whole idea in my head. The main part I liked is where both singers are singing to each other as a silhouette on the screen in the background at about 2 minutes 50 seconds. Expressions play such an important part when trying to convey passion and expressing your feelings yet both singers are so passionate even though you can't see there faces. This is why I really wanted to use the idea, as it has such an amazing presence.

This video really plays with light. It also has the vintage effect that I really love. At around 2 minutes there is a scene of a silhouetted face, where you can really see the lips moving and then a cloud of smoke covers the image. I would really like to play around with the smoke idea as well as the close up of the face. I like the close up because you can see the artist singing the words, something I would really like to do in my own video. Plus using the smoke would potentially help the video be more interesting.
